COURSE (Committee on Urban Resource Sustainability and Equity) is a committee of Gender JUST, composed of young people, students, parents, health advocates, and community members dedicated to the equitable and sustainable distribution of resources throughout Chicago for all LBGTQ people. In particular, COURSE is committed to expanding the funding and accessibility of health resources for LGBTQA people of color, trans communities, and young people - especially on the South and West sides of Chicago. COURSE is currently working to address issues related to transparency and availability of HIV/AIDS prevention services in communities of color on Chicago’s South and West sides. The Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) has a history of underfunding the South and West sides, as well as youth and trans communities. Additionally, COURSE is working to ensure that the planning process is accessible to working people! COURSE met with CDPH officials in 2009 to discuss these concerns and the possibility of working together to address them. This meeting was a great first step in creating equitable and transparent HIV/AIDS prevention services throughout the city!
