Mission, Vision & Values

Gender JUST is a member-led, multi-generational & multi-racial grassroots organization of LGBTQA (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer & allied) young people people of color, and grassroots folks developing leadership & building power through organizing.

The goals of Gender JUST are to (1) hold LGBTQA communities accountable around race, class, gender, age, religion, disability, size, and all factors necessary for a multi-dimensional and powerful movement and to (2) move the LGBTQA struggles forward by organizing through a racial, economic, and gender justice framework.

As the struggle for racial justice, economic justice, and gender justice are intricately connected, Gender JUST believes that you cannot fight against sexual and gender oppression without fighting against racism, poverty, and all oppression.  Because of this, it is especially important for Gender JUST to fight against racism, classism, sexism, ageism, ableism, and sizeism within LGBTQA communities.

Gender JUST organizes around the call for a world where all races, classes, sexual orientations, and gender identities are free to express their gender and sexuality, without institutional barriers, economic or legal consequences, or fear of repercussion.

Gender JUST Values
  • We are a multi-racial, multi-ethnic & multi-generational organization, and all organizational decisions & processes must reflect that diversity!
  • We are a membership-driven grassroots organization and must remain accountable to our base –-- all organizational decisions must be as transparent & inclusive as possible!
  • We fight for an end to all oppression and we believe there are no hierarchies of oppressions –-- although we also believe that all oppression is unique!
  • We fight against the existing power structures in society, such as white supremacy and male privilege, and our internal processes and procedures must reflect that fight!
  • We hold the fight for racial and economic justice at the forefront of all of our organizing!
  • We believe that heterosexism, sexism, gender binaries, and racism perpetuate economic injustice!
  • The contributions of trans and gender-non-conforming communities to social justice must be recognized and valued, and we oppose any measure that excludes those communities!
  • We believe in the fluidity of sexuality and gender and we struggle against all notions of gender variance as abnormal!
  • We believe in grassroots organizing not only as a means for social change but also as a form of fellowship and community!
