The goals of Gender JUST are to (1) transform LGBTQA communities by abolishing race, class, gender, age, religion and ability hierarchies in service of a multi-dimensional and powerful movement and to (2) promote innovative, community-based solutions to safety, wellness, and resource disparities that are accountable to those most vulnerable to institutional violence and harm.
Gender JUST Values We are
a multi-racial, multi-generational
collective of people of diverse marginalized gender and sexual identities, as
well as diverse skills, cultures, abilities, citizenship status,
educational backgrounds and income levels. We organize
for radical, competent transformation in housing and shelter, public education, labor,
courts, public benefits, citizenship/immigration and healthcare
sectors, toward the dismantling of an exploitative and unjust prison and military industrial
complex. We work to develop and facilitate
de-criminalization, de-escalation, harm reduction and self-care
practices in order to prioritize the safety and wellness needs of our
communities, and to embrace sexual, gender and family self-determination. We acknowledge intersectionality between different oppressions that perpetuate injustice, and we work on
multiple levels to eradicate
them. We work to affect these changes through
grassroots base building, popular education, arts/media/cultural
production, participatory action research, direct action
events, leadership development
and coalition building between disparate social and economic justice
movements. We are
committed to this work because, although we witness and experience various
forms of hardship and need in our communities, we can also imagine a society in
which hardship and need are obsolete. |
